Achille Tapsoba in the middle and his CDP comrades
Achille Tapsoba and his comrades from the historic wing of the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) hosted a press conference on Wednesday June 29, 2022 in Ouagadougou. The crisis that plagues the party was one of the major points raised during the discussions.
“The hour of truth has come,” looses the president of the historical wing of the CDP Achille Tapsoba, speaking of the 8th ordinary congress which is in sight. It was decided by the honorary president of the party Blaise Compaoré, through a letter dated June 21, 2022.
The speakers of the day think that this missive from the honorary president exiled in Côte d’Ivoire since 2014, will undoubtedly resolve the crisis that the party is experiencing. They are convinced that the congress will be an opportunity to bring together all the active militants and all those who have put themselves in reserve, in order to relaunch the activities of the CDP.
Achille Tapsoba says he is committed to respecting the decision and its implementation. According to him, this is the opportunity to apply all the practical modalities relating to the organization of the said congress which would come to be determined.
« For us, the political leadership of the CDP, the end of recreation has come, » declared Achille Tapsoba, who continued that « this is why we are appealing to active militants, to all those who have remained in reserve, those who are returned to inactivity, the resigners who wish to make a comeback, to mobilize and take charge of the destiny of their party ».
While expressing doubts about the authenticity of this famous letter which bears the signature of the honorary president, Eddie Komboigo, the current president of the CDP, indicated that the said letter does not mention the incriminated breaches. He had even told Blaise Compaoré at their meeting on May 24 that he could no longer “convene a party congress”.
For the moment, within this former party in power, there is discord between the supporters of the so-called historical wing led by Achille Tapsoba and the current of renovators led by Eddie Komboigo.
