Protesters in the streets to demand the departure of the Minister of Commerce
The official installation of Trade Minister Donatien Nagalo was postponed on Thursday. In a press conference on Wednesday, some said no to his appointment to the Ministry of Commerce, accusing him of “aggravated fraud”.
Appointed on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the Minister of Commerce, Donatien Nagalo could not be installed in his post on Thursday as planned. The day after his appointment, a collective of traders expressed their dissatisfaction with his choice as Minister of Commerce. They accuse the new minister of “high treason” when he was at the head of the National Trades Union of Burkina (SYNACOMB).
They were on the streets on Thursday to prevent the installation ceremony from taking place.
On Wednesday during a press briefing, had called on the president of the Transition to « correct this casting error which does not honor the worthy sons of this country » said the secretary general of the Regional Council of the informal economy of center, Harouna Kaboré who specifies “We believe that perhaps the Prime Minister and the President do not know it. This is why we have taken steps to inform them. If they want additional information, those who have had to pay these different sums have receipts and we can collect these receipts to help them see clearly in this case that we are denouncing”.
In November 2014, popular pressure led to the resignation of culture minister Adama Sagnon two days after his appointment.
