Burkina Faso: Crisis at the CDP, reciprocal suspensions between Eddie and Achille continue

 The crisis within the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP) continues to divide the « historical wing » of Achille Tapsoba and the « futurist wing » of Eddie Komboigo. The reciprocal suspensions continue between these two personalities who all claim to be presidents of the party.

 

 The National Political Bureau (BPN) of the CDP, led by Eddie Komboigo, suspended six of its members during its 72nd ordinary session, held on July 2nd.

 Achille Tapsoba, Salifou Sawadogo, Yaya Zoungrana, Blaise Sawadogo, Segda Gerrad, Blandine Sawadogo, Topan Sané, Jean Couldiati, all from the “historic wing”, were suspended from party authorities for six (06) months. These activists are accused of indiscipline.

 These suspended members are still contesting the legality of the 8th congress of the CDP which brought Eddie Komboigo to the head of the party, in December 2021.

 This suspension, which is not the first, comes two weeks after Eddie Komboigo himself was suspended by the National Executive Bureau, of which Achille Tapsoba is claiming the interim presidency.

 In a letter dated June 21, 2022, whose authenticity Eddie Komboigo doubts, the founder of the party, Blaise Compaoré, announced the convening of the 8th ordinary congress of the party to, he says, ease tensions within the party.

 In response to this letter, Eddie Komboigo said he was opposed to the holding of the 8th congress, on the grounds that this said congress was held in December 2021.
