Last Sunday, September 29, while covering a citizen meeting at the CDPA headquarters, the publishing director of the Togo Scoop newspaper was beaten and, worse, his cell phone was confiscated by an unidentified individual. After this bad mishap, Albert Agbeko, since it is him, is the subject of relentlessness and intimidation as well as repetitive threats.

COMMUNIQUE FROM THE JOURNAL TOGO SCOOP/(Regarding the threats and intimidation made against its Director Albert AGBEKO)
Thursday October 3, 2024, i.e. 4 days after the attack of which he was the victim while covering a political event at the headquarters of a political party in Lomé, leading to assault on him and confiscation of his work equipment , in particular the telephone, the Publication Director ofour online newspaper TOGO SCOOP, Albert AGBEKO received an anonymous call from a person who took care to hide the number.
In exchanges with an intimidating and threatening tone, the interlocutor says: “you continue your activities, we ask you to stop, you refuse, we will hit you…”; “you are not the journalist who continues to cover the meetings and you send the images and videos…”;“this is what we are going to see…”; “it’s you who are tarnishing the image of the country”; “I just want to inform you.”
After these remarks, the person concerned, author of the threats, hung up.
Worried about this relentlessness on the physical integrity of our director Albert AGBEKO. We remind you that these threats which become repetitive worry our editorial staff. This is the second threat that the publishing director of our newspaper has received in less than six months. This time, we brought this matter to the attention of press and human rights organizations.
The editorial staff of the TOGO SCOOP newspaper calls on national and international public opinion and calls on the country’s authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of the physical integrity of our publishing director.
In addition, she asks the authorities to guarantee her the conditions for the full exercise of her profession while respecting freedom and pluralism.
